Tough Economy Challenges Stay-At-Home Moms

In the face of tough economic times stay at home Moms are turning to the internet for new and enterprising ways to earn income while still meeting the needs of their families. Positioning them as a formidable force in the world of e commerce.

BALTIMORE, MD, October 25, 2008 /E-commerce PR News/ -- Since the feminist's movement, women have been struggling to balance work and family. No other segment of the society is more affected by the recent economic down turn than the Stay-At-Home Moms. With household incomes threatened by job loss or rising interest rates, there is more pressure on Stay-At-Home Moms to bring in money.

"I am seeing an internet revolution being fueled by these Stay-At-Home Moms," says Bunnie Riedel, President of Reidel Communications. "They call themselves SAHM's and they are engaging in e-commerce in stunning and creative ways."

One such SAHM is Kristen Becker of Crofton, Maryland. Becker has three sons, one teenager and two small boys, age five and three.

"I just can't give my children the quality upbringing they deserve and work a nine-to-five job," says Becker. "But raising three kids also requires a certain level of income. I looked around and realized I could start an online store, and that way I could be here for my children while earning money."

Becker's store, Shop Kir DeVries, carries an eclectic mix of eco-friendly and stylish products such as Earthlust stainless steel water bottles, ibride serving trays, Alena Hennessy Organic Scarves and Shinzi Katoh home products.

In business only a few months, Kir Devries has customers from all over the United States, as well as Australia and Canada.

"It can get a little hectic, one minute I am packing orders and the next I'm running after my three-year old," says Becker, "but's been fun and my business is really growing."

While no one knows exactly how much income these SAHM's are generating, it is estimated that sales attributed to SAHM's are in the billions of dollars and rapidly expanding.
